Gift Idea: Decorative Washi Taped Jars of Fudge

Recently with decorating the house, making a Christmas party dress, prepping for Christmas and a million and one other things my blog posts have been few and far between. Happily, whilst I haven’t had time to post about my makes I have managed to squeeze in some crafting, here’s one of my recent projects… I’ve already admitted to my hoarder like tendencies but sometimes they do pay off! In this case, my reluctance to throw away coffee jars has helped me make cute homemade gifts for my friends and family. You need: Empty coffee jars of any shape or size – the are Nescafe Gold Blend Crema Jars Washi tape…

Winter Warmer Recipe: White Hot Chocolate

I’ve only recently discovered the phenomenon that is white hot chocolate and, having been introduced to it by Costa, am not ashamed to say that I’m now addicted to it. I love a hot drink, particularly in the winter and this one feels particularly christmassy (maybe because it’s white?). The problem is that Costa isn’t cheap and it’s not on my doorstep so the only solution is to make my own. Ingredients: 100g white chocolate 1 glass and a half of milk Half a tsp vanilla essence Topping: Whipped cream Mini marshmallows 1. Break the chocolate into pieces. For a richer flavour you can increase the amount of chocolate. 2.…

Christmas Comes Early: Mince Pie Recipe

I’ll let you in to a secret… I don’t even like mince pies. Over the last couple of years though, I seem to have made more batches of them than anything else. They’ve become a firm favourite of friends, colleagues and family alike. The recipe is so simple and requires so little effort that it baffles me a little how they can be so popular but as long as I don’t get any complaints I don’t mind! Despite it only being October I’ve had requests already and I promised that this weekend I’d make my first batch of the year. As I don’t eat them myself I’ve never really paid…

    Peanut Butter & Banana Brownies

I’ve been looking for something special to bake for my boyfriend’s birthday and yesterday I saw this recipe for Peanut Butter Brownies on The Baker Chick’s blog. This was almost perfect but while he does love peanut butter and chocolate, his perfect pud isn’t complete without bananas so I thought I’d see what happened if I added some in! I’m a bit of a nightmare for measuring precisely so I’ve converted the original recipe into specifics as opposed to cups. For some reason I really enjoy measuring to exact amounts – I’m just weird that way! Ingredients: Chocolate Brownie Mix: 115g unsalted butter 85g dark chocolate (min 70% cocoa) 200g sugar 2…

White Chocolate & Raspberry Cheesecake Recipe

As it turns out, being a maker, baker, full time employee, girlfriend and friend means that there isn’t as much time for blog posts as I would like! After a hectic week I’m back in the saddle though with a recipe for a cheesecake that I made last weekend. This one was another request from my boyfriend (give in once and they start taking liberties…) but it turned out pretty tasty so it’s a good one for sharing and surprisingly, it isn’t too rich and doesn’t leave you feeling heavy. You’ll need: 170g raspberries (I used fresh but you can use frozen) 400g Philadelphia (or other soft cheese) 2 x…

    Recipe for Key Lime Pie

This weekend, after a failed attempt to order a slice from a local takeaway, my boyfriend asked me to make him a key lime pie. Despite having a very sweet tooth, he doesn’t usually benefit much from my baking as I either take it in to work or bake things as a challenge that he’s not that into. As requests from him are rare (and I’ve never made key lime pie before) I decided to oblige. Ingredients: 150g hobnobs 75g butter 3 egg yolks 397g can of condensed milk 4 limes 1. Preheat the oven to 160 degrees centigrade 2. Put the biscuits in a food processor and blitz for…
